The City of Arroyo Grande began in 1867 as a political township from land owned by Francisco Zeba Branch. Due to the prime agricultural soil, mild coastal climate and the establishment of the Pacific Coast Railway, Arroyo Grande quickly grew and was incorporated as a City on July 10, 1911.
Over the past 100 years Arroyo Grande has maintained its unique character and community spirit. Its agricultural heritage and historic Village area as well as its cultural amenities and strong business foundations make Arroyo Grande a desirable and diverse city that is loved by its residents and visitors alike.
~2011~ will be a year of celebration in Arroyo Grande as we honor our centennial. Events are planned throughout the year with a special celebration on Sunday, July 10th; the 100th anniversary of the City’s incorporation.
There will be commemorative memorabilia available including a centennial edition of “Images of America - Arroyo Grande” written by local historians Jean Hubbard and Gary Hoving.
Please visit the "Support" area of this website where you will learn about our sponsorship program which includes recognition opportunities in the new Centennial Park to be constructed in the heart of the Village near the Swinging Bridge.
In addition, Colorful Centennial Banners will hang from lampposts throughout the city with the names of the participating sponsors. Sponsorships provide an excellent way to promote your business or recognize your family, while supporting this important community celebration.
The Centennial Celebration will provide an important opportunity for community pride, unity, heritage and fun! Be a part of this once in a lifetime event by becoming an official sponsor and participating in the many planned events throughout the year.
